Student Council 2019-20 – Investiture Ceremony
The 7th Student Council took its oath of office today, and pledged to fulfill its duties towards the school, with utmost sincerity and enthusiasm. Led by the School Captain, Arsheya Kang, the newly elected Council, solemnly promised to lead by example and play their part in promoting a sense of compassion, service and justice towards fellow students, teachers and family.
Speaking on the occasion, Atul Khanna, Director of the School, congratulated the Council and appreciated the impressive demonstration of the high school students’ understanding of democratic principles, in the election of the Student Council.
Expressing deep appreciation for the school’s stellar performance in the recently declared ISC and ICSE board examinations, Mr. Khanna, placed on record, the importance of not restricting the definition of success to just examination scores. He asked students and faculty to pursue excellence and meritoriousness on the basis of other talents, abilities and individual qualities, since not all students in a class could possibly be ace scorer’s. Moreso since perfect marks did not guarantee a perfect career or a perfect life. He felt that while scoring excellent grades must be a priority, equal emphasis must be given to developing life skills and values too.
Drawing parallels between the rigorous processes followed in the election of the school council and the ongoing general elections in the country, he urged students to feel blessed living in an independent country with rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution. He asked students to discuss with friends and family the value of the hard-earned freedom, so as to put to good use, the legacy of freedom fighters, including his grandfather, Shri Durga Das Khanna, and the urgent need to safeguard its continuity for future generations.
It was also a day for appreciating the members of staff who work quietly and tirelessly, behind the scenes, to ensure that Strawberry Fields High School functions smoothly and efficiently, day after day. The Director did a very unusual thing by requesting each of the support staff members like the managers, office assistants and others to step forward and receive acclaim from the audience. These unsung heroes of the school need to be seen, recognised and appreciated, for it is thanks to their efforts that everything works so well in the school. The gesture was very well appreciated and was a fitting conclusion to a very special day.
